Ziggy's Inc. honored to be among the National Wood Flooring Association's 2002 Best!!

The floor was pictured among "The Rest of the Best" in the category of Best Job-Site Finished Craftsmanship and Design.  Ziggy's Inc. is the only Delaware Valley floor company pictured in this annual issue.

This floor features six species in a combination of grades and widths. Two separate borders create a picture-frame around the center of the room and the two wings.

More About the Floor.........

The outer border frames the room using, common, random width (3/4 by 3,4,5 inch) walnut flooring and walnut shoe molding on the exterior to complement the butternut-beaded baseboard with a walnut cap.The interior of the border alternates ¾ by 3-inch common walnut, common cherry and select hickory.

This tri-species border is laid on a 45-degree angle, which changes direction at the center of the massive blue/black, granite fireplace, at the front entrance to the room and at the midpoint of the two room sides.  This border is repeated to frame the central living area and includes an inner 1-1/4” wenge accent.

The field area between the two borders, which provides a walkway for the front entry and the fireplace area and the floor area for the wings, is random width (3,4,5 inch) select hickory. The hickory field changes direction in each corner to enhance the picture-frame look. The field of the center living area is quarter-sawn white oak, which complements the oak beams of the timber frame.

A medallion at the center of the living room is located directly below a timber-frame cupola with windows. The sunburst design was selected to accent the natural light during the day.Padauk was selected for the center wood due to its deep orange-red color. The rays, radiating from the padauk sun, use the same walnut and cherry used in the border, accented with a border alternating wenge with cherry to create depth. Each room corner of the two borders is accented by a walnut-outlined square enclosing a cross of walnut and cherry and center square of padauk.

The padauk sun and accent squares, which was 1 inch thick compared to the ¾ inch of the rest of the floor, was beveled around the edges in the sanding process. As a result, the padauk sun and squares appear to be rising from the medallion and squares, further accenting this beautiful wood.
